A savory, vegetable-filled cacciatore sauce surrounds cheese-filled meatballs for a family-friendly meal that will bring everyone to the table!
This cacciatore sauce and the meatballs it’s surrounding makes a great family meal. I know that we all have different versions of the family meal. Growing up, the family meal was this; my family would gather around the table in our kitchen, my dad would be watching the evening news, my mom would be overserving us food (that’s what Greek moms do), my sisters would be eating and I would be stalling (I never appreciated moms food back then). There wasn’t much chatter, just the clinking of silverware and the occasional plea from us for my mom to stop adding more food to our plates.
Today, the family meal is a little different. For starters, our varying activities keep us from being together each night. When we can sit down together, there is a little more chatter than the table from my youth, mainly because my 9-year-old is loquacious one. My husband focuses on dinner, my oldest eats quicky to get to dessert and my son twirls his fork and stalls as much as he can in the hopes that his determination to eat as little as possible would outlast my determination to get him to clean his plate. It’s a battle of wills and the similarities between me and my son are not lost on me.
The one thing my son does enjoy eating is meatballs. If the meatballs are stuffed with cheese, then that is just a bonus. These meatballs in cacciatore sauce are the perfect compromise for me and my picky son. He is happy to eat the juicy, cheese stuffed Italian turkey meatballs, while I am happy that he is also eating a vegetable-filled cacciatore sauce.
I love these turkey meatballs, they are lean, fresh and flavorful enough to be served on their own. Honeysuckle White Turkey’s are raised by independent family farmers that do not use growth-promoting antibiotics. Their turkey tenderloin tastes great in this Skillet Turkey Tetrazzini and their brats were outstanding in this Pineapple Teriyaki Turkey Brat recipe.
