Pomegranate juice is deliciously festive and looks gorgeous in this easy gin fizz!
There are many different kinds of drinkers in the world. Some only drink craft beer, some only cheap beer. I have friends that prefer wine and some that prefer champagne. I have friends that stick to diet sodas and friends that like a good bourbon. What I rarely see is a gin drinker.
I did know a girl who only drank Tanqueray and tonic water. She and I did not get along. Her personality was opposite of mine. She was competitive; I was easy-going. She was loud; I was quiet. She was flirty; I was conservative..you get the idea. I knew early on that we were never going to be close. After meeting her, I decided if she liked gin, I would not.
I enjoy rum (Blackberry Mojitos), vodka (cranberry orange Moscow mules) wine (sangria) and beer. However, I’ve continually avoided gin until I made this cucumber mint cooler. I kept thinking how good the gin would taste with the tart lemon and the fresh cucumber. Once I added the gin to that drink, I realized I had been too hard on gin; it deserved a chance after all. Now I’m determined to try new gin cocktails.
This gin fizz is perfect for the holidays. Gin, sugar, and vibrantly red pomegranate juice get shaken together with ice cubes then poured out into ice filled glasses. Top each glass off with either ginger ale or club soda and pass them around. These cocktails are as sophisticated as they are pretty.
I’m not going to call myself a gin drinker now. But I realized that there is a whole world of spirits that I’ve never tried! I think 2017 will be the year of the cocktail. This is the year I’ll look beyond wine and beer; there are so many possibilities!
