When it comes to simplicity NOTHING beats a skillet meal! This recipe is a fun take on the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich! It is filling, delicious, and super easy to throw together! Plus you are left with only ONE pot to clean at the end!
It finally happened. I am burnout on cooking…I have meal planning fatigue. It was bound to happen. I spend hours upon hours each year planning our weekly menu. I cook well over 300 dinners a year and that doesn’t include recipe testing for the blog or baking. That is purely meals for the family. How could I not get a little burnt out?
If I cook over 300 meals a year, I wonder how the equates to dishes? What do you think, maybe I use 2-3 pots or pans per meal? Plus utensils and mixing bowls. That is a lot of dishes!
All this is precisely why I LOVE to make skillet meals. They are easy, quick, and only involve ONE PAN! While this doesn’t exactly solve my burnout issue, it does help reduce my dish load!

What Is On A Traditional Philly Cheesesteak?
A cheesesteak is a sandwich made from thinly sliced or shaved pieces of beef that is cooked on a hot griddle with green peppers and onions.
The beef mixture is then piled high in a hoagie roll and covered in a provolone cheese sauce. It is filling and so good!
How To Make A Philly Cheesesteak Skillet Dinner?
STEP ONE – Place olive oil in a large, deep skillet and place it over medium heat. Add diced onions and peppers and cook for 2-3 minutes or until soft, add garlic and cook an additional minute. Remove veggies and set them aside.
STEP TWO – Add ground beef to the same skillet. Crumble and cook beef until no longer pink. Season beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and Italian seasoning blend. Return veggies to skillet.
STEP THREE – Stir in dried orzo pasta. Add beef broth, cover, and reduce heat. Cook for 20 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and pasta is al dente.
STEP FOUR – Top skillet with shredded cheese. Cover and steam until the cheese has melted or broil on low until melted and bubbly.
Recipe Tips
Green peppers might be traditional, but you can really use any bell pepper you have on hand!
I used lean ground beef for this recipe. You can use shaved beef for this recipe or even ground pork, turkey or chicken (although the flavor will be a little different).
Orzo is rice-shaped pasta, you could actually use rice in this recipe instead or another small-shaped pasta.
If you do not want to use provolone, shredded mozzarella, or Monterey jack cheese will work just fine!
Store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the microwave.
This Philly Cheesesteak Skillet Meal is a terrific 30-minute meal for those times where you find you need an easy weeknight dinner! It is filling, satisfying, quick, and easy too!

Hi I live right outside of Philly – you can just use the frozen steak um you get in supermarket. they are thin and at home that’s what we use, not ground meat – if you use that, then it’s not Philly Cheese Steak
