This sweet and fruity sorbet recipe has a tropical note that is boozy and cool. This Mango Rum Punch Sorbet is fun, delicious and so easy to share with friends!
There is an ice cream season in our house. Your house is probably the same (depending on where you live). Popsicles never make into the grocery cart from September to April. But when May 1st comes around, we somehow manage to go through boxes of popsicles and cartons of ice cream in just a matter of days.
The best way to deal with our iced treat gluttony is to make our own. Homemade strawberry Ice Cream, chocolate chip ice cream pie, Reese’s ice cream cake, and dirty chai popsicles make frequent appearances in our kitchen and they are always well received.
I love all those treats, but sorbets are one of my absolute favorites! They are fruity, sweet, refreshing and super simple to make.

How to Make This Mango Rum Punch Sorbet Recipe
Just like my Lime and Strawberry Sorbet, this recipe starts by making a simple syrup. Simple syrup is a mixture of water and sugar that is boiled down until has thickened. You can flavor your syrup with anything from vanilla beans, fresh fruits, rinds, spices, and extracts.
Once the syrup come together, allow it to cool completely.
Add mango chunks (fresh or frozen) to a blender along with your cooled simple syrup, mango nectar, and rum.
Refrigerate the mango mixture in the blender for about 30 minutes.
This mango sorbet does not have a strong alcohol flavor. But that can be adjusted to suit your tastes. I used white rum, but coconut rum, dark rum, or any other flavored rum would be fantastic.
*Note* if you cannot find mango nectar pineapple juice or an orange juice blend can be substituted.
How To Make This Sorbet Recipe Without An Ice Cream Maker?
To make the recipe without an ice cream maker, complete all the above steps, up until the last one. Instead of pouring the mixture into an ice cream maker, pour it into a freezer safe container and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
What’s In a Rum Punch Cocktail?
Rum punch cocktail recipe usually consists of rum (light, dark, or coconut) and lots of fruit juice like pineapple, orange juice, lemon or lime juice and grenadine for color. Some of these can be swapped out and the amounts may vary, but these ingredients are usually the basics of a rum punch.
The most popular rum punch is Jamaican rum punch. The drink is sweet, strong, and has a generous amount of fruit flavor.
My original rum punch recipe appeared a recap post that I wrote after I returned from a Caribbean cruise with Princess Cruises to Jamaica. It Is such a great cocktail for entertaining with friends, especially in the summertime. It is funny and fruity and goes down so easy!

I’ve talked about the dining onboard the ship before (paying tribute to my favorite restaurant with this Coconut Panna Cotta Recipe. If you are a foodie, then you will LOVE the dining experiences onboard the Caribbean Princess!
My favorite food experience on this particular journey may have been the Chef’s Table. This is a MUST for all food lovers. Chef’s Table allows you to tour the dining room kitchen, meet the chef and the Maitre D. Afterwards, you are treated to a gourmet, one of kind meal consisting of multiple courses that are all introduced by the chef himself.
One “meal” that stuck with me was not a meal at all, but a palate cleanser. We were served, individual gimlet sorbets that were strong yet cool and refreshing. The gin and grapefruit were equally strong and present in each, ice cold bite. Sorbet is often used as palate cleanser because it is light and consists largely of water, which naturally washes away lingering flavors. Sorbets made with citrus scrubs the mouth of any residual foods tastes
What To Eat With Mango Sorbet?
Mango sorbet pairs nicely with berries like strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Coconut chips or macadamia nuts make a nice topping for your sorbet.
You could also sandwich it between two soft coconut cookies as is served on the Caribbean Princess. Crunchy cookies and soft sweet sorbet are delightful partners!
