What’s for dinner tonight? How about serving your family this easy garlic shrimp recipe? This simple recipe can be made in minutes and it is absolutely delicious!
When it comes to seafood, there are only three things my family will eat. Those are salmon (especially salmon fish tacos), tilapia and shrimp. All of these are pretty easy to work with, but shrimp can be so much more adaptable.
What Is Garlic Shrimp?
This is definitely a recipe where the title says it all! Large shrimp are sauteed in butter, lots of garlic, and a little seasoning.
The shrimp swims and sizzles in that warm butter sauce which makes it taste DIVINE!
What Is Garlic Shrimp Scampi?
The difference between garlic shrimp and shrimp scampi is that with shrimp scampi, a little white wine makes up part of the sauce. Now can you use wine in your garlic shrimp? Um, yes. And you can drink it on the side too!
How To Make Garlic Shrimp
To begin, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add butter to the pan. When the butter has melted, add minced garlic. Fresh garlic is going to have a stronger, more pronounced flavor, but jarred, pre-minced garlic will work just fine (I use jarred garlic often).
Allow the garlic to cook for 1-2 minutes or until fragrant. Keep on eye on the garlic, it can burn very quickly. Hit the pan with a little white wine vinegar. This will deepen the flavor and add a little tanginess. White wine or lemon juice (even chicken broth) can be substituted.
At this point, you want to add the shrimp. This would be a good time to talk about shrimp. I used a bag of frozen, raw shrimp. I thawed the shrimp, rinsed them and peeled my shrimp prior to use. You can use fresh shrimp or precooked shrimp in this recipe.
Keep in mind, shrimp do not take long to cook. They only need 2-3 minutes to turn pink and opaque. If you use thawed, pre-cooked shrimp, they will go in the pan to be warmed and flavored by the sauce. Season with salt and pepper and serve!
What Goes With Garlic Shrimp
White wine and a loaf of good crusty bread for sure, but pasta (like this Shrimp Alfredo) a dinner salad like this Garlic Shrimp Cobb Salad is definitely a great option! A Spring Salad, or a Mixed Greens Salad would make great side ideas!
