How to Make British Fish Pie
For mashed potatoes:
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees f.
In a pan, cook your potatoes with hot water until they are soft and fork-tender. Drain the potatoes and then mash them in the pan.
Stir in the heavy cream, half of the butter, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Set aside until needed.
For fish/shrimp and sauce:
In another saucepan on the stove, add the milk and the fish fillets. Bring the milk to a boil and then turn it down to a simmer.
Once the fish has been cooked, add in the shrimp.
Take the fish out of the pan and save the remaining milk.
In the same pan add the remaining butter and then stir in the flour. Mix well to combine.
Turn off the heat and stir in half of the cheese and a pinch of black pepper. The sauce will begin to thicken.
For the fish pie:
In a baking dish, add the fish and shrimp.
Pour your sauce over the top.
Spoon the mashed potatoes over the sauce and spread it out into an even layer.
Sprinkle on the remaining cheese.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden in color.
Top with chopped chives.
Serve with a side of peas and sweet corn.
Enjoy!
