Your family is going to love this easy stromboli recipe! Store bought pizza dough and leftover holiday turkey make this recipe a snap to prepare!
I’m just going to say “you’re welcome” now because I know once Thanksgiving is over you are going to be searching for a way to use up all that leftover turkey. It just so happens that leftover turkey is the main ingredient in this easy stromboli recipe.
What Is an Easy Stromboli Recipe?
For those of you unfamiliar with stromboli I’ll briefly break it down. Stromboli is like a big, meaty turnover. Bread dough or pizza dough is filled with cold cuts or other meats, cheese, and vegetables and then rolled up like a jelly roll. This roll gets baked just until it is golden in color. The dough is soft and fluffy while the filling is warm and cheesy; it’s the perfect combination.
I know pizza toppings seem like a natural filling for stromboli, but you can fill them with almost anything, there really aren’t any rules. If I can make a Ham and Swiss Monkey Bread or use corned beef in a Reuben Braid, then surely leftover turkey can be stuffed into a Stromboli!
How To Make An Easy Stromboli Recipe
This recipe starts refrigerated pizza dough. I used the tube variety, i.e. Pillsbury, but you could also thaw and use your favorite pizza dough or even use bread dough. Press your dough into an 11 x 7 in a rectangle on a greased baking sheet. Place softened cream cheese on the dough and sprinkle with a little oregano. Top this with chopped steamed broccoli and leftover turkey and finally a healthy helping of mozzarella. Carefully roll up the dough, starting from the long end or fold each end over towards the center. Brush the outside with melted butter and then bake! This is just the simple dinner you need for the busy holiday weekend (or any weekend for that matter!)
