Lamb Meatballs Are A little Different
I always wonder what makes an adventurous eater. Is it nature or nurture? Perhaps it’s both. I look at my own three kids and wonder what happened? As babies, all three were fed the exact same foods, yet all three have varied tastes. My oldest daughter will try anything. She loves food and she is open to experimenting with flavors and textures, in fact, she prefers it. Meanwhile, my son avoids new foods, he likes to stick with what he likes, which is peanut butter and breakfast foods. My youngest is a good mix of the two. She is cautiously adventurous.
I have always had an appreciation for ethnic foods and have been willing to try a variety of ingredients. If you are not quite there, I think this is the meal for you (and if you are there, then you will LOVE this recipe too). This recipe has all the seasonings of a good curry, but it isn’t too strong or too spicy. You could certainly adjust the seasonings to suit your tastes.
Most people are used to using ground beef to make meatballs. Lamb adds so much flavor to any dish, more than just beef alone. It has a rich, earthy flavor that works with a variety of spices and herbs (as with this Easy Lamb Roast) or with feta cheese, fresh veggies and tomatoes like this Easy Greek Gyro Skillet. It is a rather versatile meat.
More About Lamb Meatballs
These lamb meatballs are combined with ground turkey to keep things light and lean. These meatballs are then seasoned with a variety of seasonings like cilantro, coriander, cumin, ginger, garlic, and lemon. The meatballs then simmer in a seasoned tomato sauce made with some of the same spices and if you are going to use so many spices and such flavorful meat, then the sauce has to have quality tomatoes which is why I used Red Gold Tomatoes in this recipe. Red Gold Tomatoes are sustainably grown on Mid-West family farms. All products are Non-GMO verified and packed in BPA free cans. Once the meatballs are added to the sauce simmer for 20 minutes to allow all the flavors to blend. Serve these lamb meatballs over rice for a complete meal!
Curried Lamb Meatballs

- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon jarred ginger
- The juice of half a lemon
- 1 egg lightly beaten
- For the curry sauce
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- ¼ cup diced onion
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon jarred ginger
- 1 ½ teaspoons turmeric
- 1 ½ teaspoons cumin
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon allspice
- 1 28 oz crushed Red Gold Tomatoes
- 1 14 oz can Red Gold Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine the lamb, turkey, salt and next 7 ingredients, mix by hand just until combined. Roll mixture into balls (using around 2 tablespoons for each meatball) and place on a lined, rimmed baking sheet. Bake meatballs for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. In a deep skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 3-4 minutes, stir in garlic and cook an additional minute. Season the vegetables with the spices, and stir in the tomatoes.
When meatballs have finished cooking, using tongs, add them to the sauce. Simmer the meatballs in the sauce for an additional 20 minutes. Serve with rice.
