The key to an easy profiterole is a light and airy puff pastry! Apple pie filling and creamy salted caramel ice cream fill each delicate pastry.
There is something exciting about ordering dessert when dining out. When you are at a restaurant everything seems a little more distinct and elaborate. You could order a plain old brownie, but because it served on an all-white plate, with a garnish it is suddenly transformed into the most amazing thing you’ve ever eaten. Somehow those restaurant desserts make you feel like you are indulging in something you couldn’t imagine making at home. I have nothing against restaurant desserts, but I’m here to tell you, anything is possible.
Profiteroles
I was treated to my first profiterole during a business lunch with a boss I had many years ago. Profiteroles seemed so exotic and impossible to recreate. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that decided to attempt my own profiterole with this Strawberries and Cream Profiterole recipe. In that recipe, I made up my own puff pastry recipe, but since time is always of the essence, I have an even simpler recipe for you today!
How to Make a Caramel Apple Profiterole
These caramel apple profiteroles are made with only 4 ingredients and all can be readily found at your local Kroger store. I start with a puff pastry sheet that is cut into rounds then baked until golden and puffy. The filling is apple pie filling and Salted Caramel flavored ice cream. A drizzle of caramel sauce elevates the look and the flavor of this simple dessert! The ice cream is the exact right filling for these profiteroles.
The caramel apple flavor is fabulous for fall, but you can easily swap out the flavors for any occasion. You could fill your profiteroles with Simple Truth™ Low Cow Ice Cream in the following combinations:
Simple Truth™ Low Cow Chocolate and marshmallow cream and topped with chocolate sauce and crushed graham crackers.
Simple Truth™ Low Cow Vanilla Bean and topped salted caramel sauce and chopped nuts
Simple Truth™ Low Cow Lemon Cake and topped with raspberry sauce
Simple Truth™ Mint Chocolate Chip and topped with chocolate sauce and chopped chocolate and mint candies
Simple Truth™ Birthday Cake topped with any sauce, whipped cream a cherry and lots of sprinkles!
The possibilities are endless and the fun is limitless. Enjoy your restaurant desserts but enjoy them at home in your own kitchen! You may want to try this easy no-bake Toffee Apple Eclair Cake too or Caramel Apple Whoopie Pies and Apple Rum Cake!
