Browned Butter Blondies with Tea
These browned butter blondies are the perfect companion to a hot cup of tea. I am religious about drinking my coffee in the morning, but during the afternoon and evening, a good, steaming cup of tea is always satisfying.
I grew up on tea. My dad sort of thinks of tea as the cure for everything that ails you. If you having a stomach ache, have a cup of tea. If your throat is sore, have a cup of tea, if you have a headache, rest and have a cup of tea. Tea and honey have magic powers as far as my dad is concerned. My mom always laughs at him (she, the non-tea drinker) whenever he offers up a cup, but me, I’m sticking with dad on this one. Sometimes father knows best.
Browned Butter Blondies
Chai tea is one of my favorites. Chai tea is a black tea that is flavored with cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. It does have a spicy bite to it which is why I thought it would be a lovely flavor to frost my blondies. These blondies are not short on flavor either! They start with browned butter. If you have never tried browning butter, then I beg you to try this recipe. Browned butter is exactly what the name implies. You cook butter on the stove until it turns a deep amber color. Then you let it solidify and use as normal in your baked goods. I make Browned Butter Homemade Waffles, Browned Butter Cowboy Cookies and a pecan quick bread recipe with browned butter frosting regularly because I find browned butter to be positively addicting.
The deep, sweet caramel-like flavor of the blondies make an excellent base for the chai spice frosting. There is something almost warm and comforting to this treat. It’s like a hot cup of tea, one taste and you instantly feel better!
