Wouldn’t you just love to be slurping on a thick and creamy banana milkshake?
This shake starts with homemade banana ice cream and ends with a HUGE smile!
Kids would love this banana milkshake and adults who want to feel like kids will love them too!
These yummy and filling banana shakes are a wonderful blend of ripe banana flavor and ice cream in every sip. Similar to an ice cream sundae, only better! We like to swirl the inside of our drinking glasses with caramel sauce to really take the flavors up a notch but even swapping the ice cream for chocolate flavor can have a real impact on these shakes and turn them into a creative new drink too!
What Is Banana Milkshake?
A banana milkshake is a blend of ripe bananas, ice cream, and milk. Traditional milkshakes are ice cream and milk blended together until the desired consistency and this shake just makes it a bit thicker and sweeter by adding in a banana for natural flavor. We also use homemade banana ice cream which you can read how to make further down, so scroll down and make your own banana ice cream for this shake or simply buy ice cream from the store to cut down on time, either way, you’ll want to repeat this recipe all summer long.

How to Make Homemade Banana Ice Cream
This particular milkshake starts with homemade banana ice cream! You can read my post that details the best way to make the creamiest banana ice cream. Once you have that, it is smooth sailing!
Place scoops of the homemade ice cream and whole milk into a blender and blend. Add bananas (if desired) and continue to blend until smooth and creamy. While my recipe lists ingredient quantities note that they are merely recommendations. I think milkshakes are one of those things that need to be made to taste!
Some people like thick milkshakes you can eat with a spoon and others like them thin so that they can easily be consumed with a straw. When you have a milkshake-like this, some people like to see and taste the big chunks of bananas!
FAQs and Recipe Tips
How To Make A Banana Milkshake Without Ice Cream
To make a milkshake without ice cream, combine the bananas, milk, ice cubes, and sugar to taste in a blender and blend until combined! You won’t have that creamy and rich texture that comes from ice cream, but in a pinch, it will do! You can also use frozen yogurt.
How To Make A Banana Milkshake Without A Blender
The best way to make a milkshake without a blender is to place your ice cream and your milk in a large bowl and whisk until the ingredients are blended to your liking. This will take time and some muscle, but it can be done!
If you have a metal bowl, I would use that, but I would chill it first. This will help the ice cream maintain its temperature.
