These elevate your plain old hot dogs into something amazing! Bacon makes everything better and that definitely holds true for hot dogs! These bacon-wrapped hot dogs have Queso and jalapenos for the ultimate hot dog experience!
I was talking about how I am not that fond of hot dogs in the Chicago Style Hot Dog post. I just don’t crave them, and I can honestly say I never really did, even though hot dogs are sort of a childhood staple for many.
I’m trying to revisit the idea of enjoying hot dogs in the summertime. The grill has a way every making everything taste delicious and the same holds true for hot dogs.
Let’s take things a step further. Bacon makes everything taste good too. So if you have a bacon-wrapped hot dog that is THEN grilled, well then you have yourself a winning combo!
So What Is A Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog?
This hot dog recipe starts with all-beef hot dogs that are then wrapped with partially cooked bacon that has been secured with a toothpick.
The hot dogs are grilled until the bacon is crisp.
The dogs are nestled in a Queso-drizzled bun and topped with shredded lettuce and pickled jalapenos!
How Exactly Do I Make The Hot Dogs?
Preheat your outdoor grill to medium heat, spraying the grates with non-stick spray before you begin,
Partially cook your bacon. You do not need it crisp at this point, you want it pliable enough to work around your hot dog. Wrap one strip of bacon or one-half slice of bacon (uncooked) around each hot dog, secure the bacon with a toothpick.
Place the hot dog on the grill and cook for about 6-8 minutes or until the bacon has cooked through.
Meanwhile, prepare your Queso. I used Queso flavored Velveeta for this recipe. I cubed the Velveeta and combined it with milk in a small saucepan and heat just until melted and smooth,
When hot dogs are ready. Drizzle the inside of a bun with Queso. Top each hot dog with shredded lettuce and pickled jalapeno slices. Serve immediately.
How Do I Make These Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog In The Oven?
Preheat the oven 400 degrees.
Wrap your bacon around your hot dog as mentioned above.
Place the hot dogs on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake the hot dogs for 12 minutes or until the bacon has cooked through.
Recipe Tips
I like to partially cook the bacon so that everything cooks quicker. I want to be sure everything is cooked through before serving.
You can use a full strip of bacon or just half a slice, that is really up to you. I would avoid overlapping the bacon as you want to make sure all the bacon has the opportunity to cook through.
You can season the bacon with brown sugar, paprika, black pepper or any other seasonings ( check out the seasoning in the BLT Sandwich)!
If you cannot find Queso Velveeta, regular Velveeta is fine, simply add chopped green chilies to your melted cheese sauce.
Fresh jalapenos can be used in place of the pickled,
