FAQs
Can I just use caramel sauce instead?
While making your own caramel sauce is great, if you do not wish to use caramel candy pieces and heavy cream to make your own caramel sauce then you can use storebought. I recommend the thick jar of caramel sauce found in the ice cream section of your grocery store. Using storebought will help to reduce time and effort as well so you can get your treats in your belly even faster.
How long are Reese’s Peanut Butter Caramel Bars good for?
These bars will last for up to 4 or 5 days if kept stored in an airtight container at room temperature. You could also choose to store them in the fridge if desired but you may wish to wait a few minutes before biting in if you want the caramel to soften first, otherwise, the cold air will have made it harder and chewy.
Can I make these peanut butter bars gluten free?
While I have not personally tested it I know other similar recipes have been modified without fail and feel confident in telling you that you may be able to turn these gluten free by using bob’s red mill gluten free 1:1 baking flour in place of the all-purpose flour. If you do try this at home, let me know how it turns out because I am eager to hear about the tasty results!

Lemonsforlulu says

Carol (home baker) says
The Reese’s Peanut Butter Caramel Bars are the first I’ve made from Lulu’s site. My husband is also the official taste tester in our household. He takes is role very seriously. While he is swayed easily by peanut butter, chocolate, walnuts, and oatmeal cookies, he will patiently try anything I bake, give his honest opinion, and suggest improvements or additions…lovingly. I confess that I am not a chocolate lover. In fact, chocolate does not like me…my hands break out if I work with the confection too much, i don’t enjoy to smell, taste or texture. However, I do bake, if say so myself, killer brownies and chocolate goodies. So, after I read this recipe to my husband, he enthusiastically requested I make them. The brown sugar and melted butter are a heavenly way to begin. The batter is very thick, and silky; add the chocolate chips, layer the melted caramels and chopped mini reese’s, top with remaining thick batter and it’s spectacular, even before baked. The finished brownies are very gooey and rich. At first I thought I had not baked them long enough, though the edges were browned, and toothpick came out clean (except for caramel or chocolate on it). This recipe will be added to my favorites page and made again and again.
Lemonsforlulu says
You are right the batter is very thick. I was worried about them being under baked too but then they end up so soft and rich! So happy you and your husband both enjoyed these. They are certainly a favorite in my home too.
Liz says
My family LOVED these! Thanks for the excellent recipe, Tanya!
Lemonsforlulu says
Oh good! Thank you for trying them Liz!!
