FAQs
Can I use Whiskey instead of Bourbon?
Yes, if desired you can choose to use your favorite whiskey in place of the bourbon but please note that the flavor of this dish will be different as whiskey and bourbon both have different flavors and profiles. I recommend starting off with a little bit of whiskey and slowly adding more until you get to a taste that you can enjoy. You don’t want to add in too much and overpower the other flavors in the sauce.
Can I make this alcohol-free?
If you do not wish to use bourbon in this recipe you can simply replace it with some chicken broth. It won’t taste the same but it will still taste really good.
How many people will this feed?
This amount of meat will feed about 6-8 people depending on their appetites but you may be able to stretch it out further by offering more side dishes like Oven Baked Cottage Fries or a Quick and Easy Coleslaw Recipe. Adding delicious and easy side dishes to your meal is a great way to help make the servings stretch a little further without leaving hungry tummies behind.
What goes well with pulled pork sandwiches?
Some of the most commonly seen side dishes to serve alongside pulled pork are coleslaw, french fries, potato chips, and even mac and cheese. my Homemade Mac and Cheese Recipe is a perfect complement to this saucy meat sandwich but even my Black Bean, Corn, and Avocado Salad would be a great pair if you’re looking for something incredibly easy to throw together. There are so many options and possibilities that it really just depends on what you’re in the mood for. But whatever you choose to serve alongside your pulled pork sandwiches, I’m sure it’s going to taste great!

Tanya, you forgot to pick me up on your way to vacation! Hello, I totally belong on a white sandy beach with you, drinking cocktails and wearing those big, floppy hats. But to make it up to me, you can totally make me this sammy. I LOVE pulled pork. And bourbon 🙂
Lemonsforlulu says
Darn it Hayley, I knew we forgot to pack something….you!!! I will share my sandwich instead, and my bourbon!

Oh my goodness, this is my kind of sandwich! I love me some pulled pork! I hope you are having fun on your vacay and that the road trip didn’t end up being like National Lampoon’s Vacation ;P
Lisa@ Cooking with Curls says
You had me at Bourbon! Our road trip to get to the sandy beaches, was a 3 day drive back to California 😛 Ahhhh, the joys of having children!!!
Lemonsforlulu says
I had ME at bourbon! No way, no 3 day drive for us! Whew, you are brave!
ChgoJohn says
I’m game! No, not for the road trip. I’ve taken my last. I mean that ‘ll make this pulled pork. I recently tried a recipe but it wasn’t as flavorful as I had hoped it would be. I know that won’t be a problem here. And with Summer coming on fast, there’s no better time to make pulled pork. Who wants to cook a dinner when there’s a sandwich handy? Not me! Thanks, Tanya.
Jennifer M. says
I hate to admit this, but I dread road trips! The furthest away we now go is about 2 hours, that is about all we can stand 🙂
I love to use my slow cooker during summer, pulled pork is one of my favorites, I will have to try your bourbon sauce! I have had an unopened bottle of Southern Comfort in my pantry for ever, now I know what to do with it!
Lemonsforlulu says
You are smart to stay within 2 hours! I just wish something exciting was only that far! I love the slow cooker too! So easy! Thanks Jennifer!

Keeping It Simple says
Sounds great and I would love to make it, but I don’t have bourbon and don’t want to buy it to use a half cup once…. is there a substitution? Every recipe I try has required me to buy different condiments and spices, and I need a break!
Erin+@ Simple, Sweet & Savory says
Slow cooked pork is amazing. And add the bourbon? Wow, I am so excited to try this. It looks absolutely delicious.
Lourdes says
Hi, just found this recipe of yours & it sounds delish! Right when I thought I’d get this started I realized my bourbon was swiped! LOL, I do have single malt whiskey though. Do you think the substitution will work? Thanks!
Lemonsforlulu says
The tasted would taste just a bit different. I would start of with less whiskey and add more as you go. Chicken broth would be fine too.
Nicole says
This was one of the most amazing pulled pork we’ve ever had! Thank you so much for sharing!
Lemonsforlulu says
I could not be happier!! It is a staple in my family! Thank you so much for trying the recipe!
Caroline says
How many will this feed? We are having our second annual family crockpot Christmas, and I am going to make this. There are 10 of us. Thanks!
Lemonsforlulu says
I would say 6-8, depending on the size of the appetites.
Kristal says
Is the ketchup liquid cups or dry cups? Not sure if it matters, but this sounds yummy so I’m going to make this for my husband’s 40th birthday party and don’t want to mess it up!
Tanya Schroeder says
It is liquid.
